Module 6 Unexplained Mysteries of the Natural World

Period 8 

Teaching contents: Everyday English, Pronunciation and writing.    

Main and difficult teaching points: Writing practice (Try to describe a mysterious experience).

Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Revision

  Review the new language items learned in the previous period.

Step 2 Everyday English  

  1. Task 1 (Ss) Look at the words and phrases and choose the right explanation.

  2. Check the answers and explain the usages of the following phrases.

  1) throw light on 帮助弄清楚;阐明某事

 e.g. Your statement does not throw light on the subject.

  To RB P70.

  2) come straight to the point  谈正题;开门见山

    to the point  切题; 中肯   be on the point of 正要

 e.g. Let’s come straight to the point.

I like his speech because it is clear and to the point.

3) go for sb./sth. 去找某人;设法得到;出去;喜欢;支持;偏爱

 e.g. Do you go for modern music?

Step 3 Pronunciation

  1. Explain what elision is.

  2. Listen to the recording and imitate the pronunciation.

Step 4 Writing  

  1. Talk about how to describe a strange/mysterious thing.

(When, where, what, how, why…)

  2. Work in pairs to work out an outline for the writing.

Guidance:

P1  What happened and where

P2  Describe the thing/event (What did you see/hear/feel/think of)

P3  Give an explanation or your opinion

  3. Writing practice: Write the first draft.

Homework:

  1. Complete the writing.

  2. Revise this module and complete the test paper.
