Teaching contents: Function, Listening and vocabulary, Pronunciation and Everyday English.

Main and difficult teaching points: Listening practice and vocabulary enlargement.

Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Revision

  Revise the passive voice briefly and check the grammar exercises.

Step 2 Function

  1. Task 1 Find out how to read or say the numbers by completing the exercises in Activity 1.

  2. Task 2 Practise reading the numbers in Activity 2.

  3. Task 3 Practise dictating numbers in pairs.

Step 3 Listening and Vocabulary

  1. Task 1 Match the words with the meanings in Activity 4.

  2. Task 2 Go through the listening tasks after the teacher gives a brief introduction to the listening material. (New words and phrase: subject, be known for, the theory of relativity, collapse, radiation, Fred Hoyle)

  3. Task 3 Listen to the recording twice or more to complete all the exercises.

  4. Check the answers to the exercises.

Step 4 Pronunciation

  Task Practise reading the long words with the right stress after the teacher gives explanations.

Step 5 Everyday English  

1. Task Choose the right explanation for each phrase.

2. Check the answers and give a brief explanation.

  Do some exercises in RB.
