Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Revision

  Review the main language items learned in the previous period.

Step 2 Cultural corner: Reading Comprehension

  1. Task1 Listen to the passage to get to know the main idea of this passage and answer Question1.

  (The passage mainly introduces a person named Colin McCorquodale visited different countries around the world and sent himself a postcard when he came to a new place.)

2. Task2 Read the passage again and complete the reading comprehension exercises on P60 in RB.

Step 3 Cultural corner: New language items

  Task Learn the new language items in the passage to understand it better.

  1. view n. 1) [U] 视野；视力     2) [C/U] 看，眺望；风景；景色  

3) 观点；想法；意见；展望

in view of 考虑到；鉴于   in one’s view 就某人看来

e.g. The eagle soon flew out of view. 那只鹰很快从视野里消失了。

The view from the top of the mountain is wonderful.  从山顶上眺望，风景美极了。

What’s your view on the subject? 你对这一问题的看法如何？

In my opinion, the government should take measures to solve this problem.

依我看来，政府应该采取措施解决这一问题。

辨析: scene, scenery, sight和view

scene, scenery, sight和view都有景象的含义。

1) scene指展现在眼前的情景，也可以指scenery的一部分，大多包括景物中的人及活动在内。

2) scenery指某地总的自然风景或景色，尤指美丽的乡间景色。

3) sight则既可以指场景、眼前看到的景观，又可以指名胜、风景，只是在表示后者的含义时，必须要用复数。

4) view 指从某一个地方或角度所看到的景色或景象。

e.g. The scene after the earthquake was horrible.地震后的场景十分可怕。

The scenery as one travels by boat along the Changjiang Three Gorges is marvelous.

坐船游览长江三峡的时候，两岸的风景美不胜收。

The mountain hotel offered magnificent views.从山间旅行社可以看到壮丽的景观。

The Imperial Palace is one of the sights of China.     故宫是中国名胜之一。

  2. stick vi. 粘住；粘贴 vt. 刺；戳

    stick to 坚持 (insist on/persist in)   stick it out 拼到底；坚持到底

e.g. Two pages of the book stuck together.   这本书有两页粘在一起。

Hesticks to what he said yesterday.   他仍然坚持他昨天说的话。

The stamp didn’t stick to the envelope.   邮票没有在信封上粘牢。

If you stick to the truth, you have nothing to fear.

He always sticks to his promise. 他总是坚守自己的诺言。

  3. follow vt. 跟随，沿着，听懂，从事，接受

following adj. 下列的，紧跟的  as follows 如下

followed/following 用作分词短语

  4. I’m allowed to stick one only if I’ve been in a place for more than 24 hours.

我只有在一个地方呆的时间超过24小时时，我才能在上面插入一根大头针。

辨析: only if与 if only

1) only if主要表示条件，常理解为“只有”，强调条件实现的依据。当only if引导的状语从句置于主句之前时，其后的主句要用倒装语序。

2) if only 主要表示强烈的愿望或遗憾，主要用于虚拟语气中。意思是“但愿；真希望；只要……就好了”。

e.g. I told him he would succeed only if he tried hard. 我告诉他，只要他努力就能成功。

Only if the red light comes on is there any danger to employees.

只要红灯一亮，就表示职工有危险。

If only she could have lived a little longer. 要是她能活得再长一些，那该多好啊！
