Lesson Type
The lesson type of this lesson is listening and speaking new
lesson.
Resource Analysis
The central topic of this unit is personal situation and school
life. This topic of lesson is the first part of unit 1. The topic
of lesson is to talk about personal situation and to make friends.
This is one of the main topics of Compulsory education English
curriculum standard (2011 edition). The textbook focuses on talking
about personal situations and interpersonal interactions, and it
introduces the key words in this course, such as name, phone
number, etc. And it describes some sentences that ask for
information about others, such as What’s your name? What’s your
phone number? etc. The teaching content is closely related to
students’ real life. In addition, this lesson has played an
important role in preparing the whole unit. The situational
dialogues used in teaching can effectively enhance students’
interest in learning and assist classroom teaching.
Student Analysis
The seventh grade students are in the new entrance stage and have
strong curiosity. They also have some abilities of rational
thinking and abstract thinking, and they have some foundation of
English learning. Their learning style tends to be passive, but
they are more willing to accept new knowledge. The whole class have
sixty students. About 60% of them are group learners, the others
are individual learners. In this lesson, personal conversation is
close to daily life, practical as well. Students will review the
personal pronouns like I, you, he, she, etc. It can not only lay
the foundation for this class of learning, but also can it reduce
the difficulty. As is vividly shown in the conversation and
teaching content. Students can be more interested in the course and
improve their language ability.
Teaching Objectives
(1)Language knowledge
Through this lesson, about 85% of the students will be able to read
the words and phrases skillfully: including name, telephone number,
your, his, her, yes, no, first, last, middle
school, phone number, first name and last name.
About 80% of the students will be able to use simple English
sentences to ask for personal information, such as phone number and
name, and to greet others.
(2)Learning Strategies
Under the guidance of teacher, 90% of the students can initiatively
participate in discussion and dialogue exercises.
(3)Affect Attitude and Value
This class can cultivate students’ initiative in English learning
and let students experience learning happily. It can also enhance
students’ interest and enthusiasm in learning.
Teaching Focuses
Key: ask and answer personal information, and greeting
Difficult points: read the telephone numbers skillfully, and use
the negative answers.

This lesson will use situational language teaching and
audiolingualism.

Pictures, multimedia equipment, recorder, audiotape.
8. Teaching Procedure
(1) Pre-listening
Display pictures through multimedia to learn new words.
Name n. 名字
Example: My name is John.
Phone number n. 电话号码
Example: His phone number is 2753494.
Middle school n. 中学
Example: I study in No. 2 middle school.
Give students some time to memorize the new words which have been
taught.
Design Intention: It is visual and helpful to use pictures to learn
new words. It can enhance students’ understanding and memory.
(2) While-reading
Activity one
The teacher leads students to read the new words. And teacher can
use some pictures or some songs to help them remember the
words.
Activity two
The teacher plays the recording. And teacher lets students listen
to the recording and perceive the content of the
conversation.
Then teacher lets the students listen to the recording again and
guide the students to read the sentences in the contents of the
dialogue.
Such as: What’s your name? My phone number is 2753494.
After that, teacher can lead students to finish the mission that
circle the words they hear and read in 1a.
Activity three
Teacher lets students read the conversation 1c in the way of
role-play. And teacher can lead students to talk about the other
people in the picture.
Teacher can give some questions about filling in the blank to
students to help them consolidate the words.
Activity four
Teacher organizes students to perform role-play dialogues to help
them consolidate the new words and sentences they have
learnt.
(3) Post-reading
Teacher asks student to perform the dialogue on the stage with
another partner. In this way students can consolidate the contents
they have learnt.
Students sum up the basic sentence patterns and new words. And they
evaluate each other’s performance in this lesson. Finally they
complete the test that questions for the lesson.
And at last teacher can encourage students to learn English more
hard to find its interest.
