them a video (2 mins), the video is about British manner VS French
manner.
After
the video, ask them questions

are people in Britain supposed to do when they meet each

(Answer: They are supposed to hug)

Pre-listening (10 mins):
1. Use
PPT to show the students some pictures to help them learn new
words.
And
let students read after the tape to practice their
pronunciations.
1) Custom

the students some sentence patterns, play the tape of these

Activity1:
Listen to the tape and ask students to finish the task in 1a. Then,
check the answer, the whole class answer the
teacher’s
question together. (Students should use the
sentence “They’re
supposed to…” to
answer the question.)

do when they meet for the first time?
A: They’re
supposed to bow/shake hands/kiss.
Activity2: Listen to the tape and ask students to finish the task
in 2a. Then, ask one or two students to give their
answers.
The teacher give comment on their answers, praise those who did a
good job, and help correct their answer if they made some

task in 2b. Ask one or two students to write down their answers on

1. Divide
students into groups (each group has 2 people), ask them to
role-play a conversation between Maria and Dan, use the information
in 2a and 2b, they can also add their own information in their
